Green papaya pickle/achar

Submitted by susan on Tue, 2007-02-13 10:31.
The last time I had this dish was at least 20 years ago - and I've probably only had it once or twice in my whole life (WOE!).  A very rare dish even for Malaysians.

Now that I'm in Australia, I might never never have it again (made by someone who knows what they're doing *sob*)..

But...at least there's still a recipe and good instructions to follow.  *hopeful glance in Mum's direction* heheh..

Casino Royale

Sigh.  I love James Bond movies.  All right, I'm a right dag, but you all know that already so why not be honest about it.

I've been looking forward to this especially since reading a review on The Age, talking about how it's very different from the old JB movies.  Don't get me wrong, I liked the latest ones too but this was just another kind of good.

interestingly, it was also very romantic.  Sort of like McDonalds having a healthy menu to get the girls in there with their boyfriends.  *Sigh*

Good long story too.  I like stories :-)

In Alice's wonderland

Submitted by susan on Sat, 2006-11-18 07:20.

Lots of travelling lately - I don't think it would be inaccurate to say that I've been away about twice as much as I've been home.

Now, that could be a negative or a positive depending on how you spend your time of course.  Usually with work and all, you hardly get an opportunity to check out good places while you're away.

That doesn't reckon with thoughtful rellies introducing you to their local favourite though.  So it was that a few Saturdays ago I ventured to a little place call Alice's in Thornleigh, Sydney, in the company of a good sized family group (perfect, by the way, for any Malaysian meal).

Book list

Submitted by susan on Wed, 2006-10-11 09:02.

I love Creating Passionate Users..  and it's just now got a list of books that likeminded people have put together.

So what can I do but save this list so that I can try some of them for myself.  After all, they've already mentioned Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman & Jared Diamond.

Breakfast bar option

Submitted by susan on Sat, 2006-09-09 00:36.

Found a dairy free potentially healthy snack.  I was getting something at the newsagent on the ground floor of the office building when the box caught my eye.

"FREGGIE", it announced.

"1 serve of fruit and veggies in every bar"

Hmm...read ingredients list..no dairy ingredients, couple of different grains etc etc.  Buy one (berry flavour).

Verdict: Delicious!

They have a website too.  You can find out how much it coss to order 5 dozen bars if you like hehe..

Long Room & Club Sofitel

Submitted by susan on Sat, 2006-09-02 01:41.
Some time ago I needed a good spot for a short after-work meeting.  Somewhere not too noisy or busy, where you can simply have a chat over a drink.

The Long Room was suggested and turned out to be perfect - they have alcoves off the main room where the recruiter and I were able to hear each other - not to mention hearing ourselves think.
