Lankan Breakfast

Submitted by susan on Wed, 2005-12-28 02:55.

Mmmm yum.  What a great way to wake up.

Last night we were over at the lovely Christina's and George's.  Had a fantastic time catching up with lots of people.  Also had the rare experience of Joshua being particularly festive and sociable the whole night, but especially on the way out, as he shared out lots of hugs and kisses to all of us.  An occasion to be savoured!

News to me, but not news, I'm sure, is that we are expecting another two arrivals in May and July next year from Naomi and Thanuja.  Congratulations!

That makes three :-0 in three months including #3 in the Kanagasabai clan hehe..  err...so, what is it about August, September and October, guys? ;-)

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe

Submitted by susan on Mon, 2005-12-26 02:23.

Yay!  Julie organised an outing for all of us to see this on Boxing Day.

It was a perfect, sunny day so we parked at her place and walked across to the cinema...  there was some consternation initially because we weren't sure if we were waiting for Ken and Jenny, or if they were meeting us later.  But they met us just after we rounded the corner, so we made a lovely big group walking to the cinema.

Julie had packed us a bag of mixed treats each - popcorn, chicken in a biskit, M&M's, and a candy cane.  A.Mola brought a big box of Shapes (which Euge helped to demolish more than the rest of us hehe..) and we brought a bag of Uncle Toby's popcorn.  Ken & Jenny brought pop top apple juices which was quite funny because the only child there was Em!!

Turkey stuffing - rosemary, garlic and lemon rice

Submitted by susan on Sun, 2005-12-25 13:10.

Hah...near disaster on Christmas day!

Amy hosted this year which meant that moi had to do almost nothing.  I did pick up the turkey rolls ordered from Lennards in Knox City by aforementioned sister (rosemary, garlic and cranberry).  They almost gave me only one of the 2 kg roasts which may have been a good thing in hindsight hehe... at the end of the night, Amy had that extra roast still waiting around for its turn in the limelight.  Never mind, I personally like turkey anytime of year, but especially on Boxing Day :-)

Anyway, thought I'd make a rice stuffing as well to have on the side with it.  There can never be too much stuffing!  Stuffing makes the world go round!  (And other foodie cries like that *grin*)

Hehe...Colombian Coke..

Two cool things happened today..

Submitted by susan on Wed, 2005-12-21 11:52.

haha...guess what?  Today I sent Euge my first ever Access database.. and also, work swapped over my lease car for another silver Camry - which is even more gorgeous than the last (*happy sigh*)

The point is, the previous Camry's numberplate was SQL409.  And today, just as I underwent my dba baptism...SQL left my life.

I'll miss that car!

Alex's belated birthday party

Submitted by susan on Tue, 2005-12-20 15:58.

Had a great night out!  Wincey and Karen organised a surprise birthday dinner for Alex which was even more surprising because his birthday was in August.

I wish I could show you the beautiful box of chocolates that Karen-2 got for Alex.

We went to Word on Goldie St in the city...apparently a bar during normal operations, but Karen and Wincey organised a set menu dinner (for under $30! with dessert and coffee! and glass of house wine!) and it was pretty alright too.  Interesting interior, table right in front of massive bar, and behind, a friendly looking fireplace ...music not too loud, food reasonable, company: ...EXCELLENT.

Fried noodles

Submitted by susan on Sat, 2005-12-17 04:17.

Oh yeah..I should have mentioned that you don't need a lot of noodles when you're making noodle soup!  It's like a basic law or something.

So what do you do with the rest of the pack?

Fried noodles for 3

1 clove garlic (optional)

1 zucchini

1 carrot

remainder of bag of asian baby leaves, remainder Fantastic thin Singapore noodles

4 eggs

few tablespoons oyster sauce

oil & sesame oil for finishing

fried shallots

- soften noodles in boiling water as before

- grate zucchini coarsely (Ah Charmaine, you've done it again!) and mix in 2 teaspoons salt, put aside for 5 minutes

Out of season

I made wonton soup the other day despite the really hot weather we've been having.  Why?  Dunno!

Anyway, it wasn't really wonton soup either cos I made this up at 9pm one night from what was available from the local supermarket!  But it's still worth writing about because I always like recording the things that are easy and yum.   And I hope it'll inspire some of us who are too busy, to make this at home rather than go to a restaurant - because it really is easy!

Instead of pork mince - substitute 100g chicken mince per serve as it's readily available from the supermarkets

By the way (again)

It's my blog and I'll write if I want to

Submitted by susan on Sun, 2005-12-04 04:17.

..I mean, of course, that this entry is hardly going to be riveting, what with a signal lack of video, powerpoint or photos!  But, at least I'll get to write about my favourite subject :-)

Well, what's been happening in the last (wow has it been that long already) month since the post?

To start with, welcome to Nigel and Cindy!  I'm deciding who gets the chocolate at the moment.  Unfortunately the promised chocolate never turned up, but we stumbled across another very similar offering which we bought in anticipation of doing a taste comparison - so I'm glad to announce that there is chocolate for grabs still!
