Turkey stuffing - rosemary, garlic and lemon rice

Submitted by susan on Sun, 2005-12-25 13:10.

Hah...near disaster on Christmas day!

Amy hosted this year which meant that moi had to do almost nothing.  I did pick up the turkey rolls ordered from Lennards in Knox City by aforementioned sister (rosemary, garlic and cranberry).  They almost gave me only one of the 2 kg roasts which may have been a good thing in hindsight hehe... at the end of the night, Amy had that extra roast still waiting around for its turn in the limelight.  Never mind, I personally like turkey anytime of year, but especially on Boxing Day :-)

Anyway, thought I'd make a rice stuffing as well to have on the side with it.  There can never be too much stuffing!  Stuffing makes the world go round!  (And other foodie cries like that *grin*)

Hehe...Colombian Coke..

Fried noodles

Submitted by susan on Sat, 2005-12-17 04:17.

Oh yeah..I should have mentioned that you don't need a lot of noodles when you're making noodle soup!  It's like a basic law or something.

So what do you do with the rest of the pack?

Fried noodles for 3

1 clove garlic (optional)

1 zucchini

1 carrot

remainder of bag of asian baby leaves, remainder Fantastic thin Singapore noodles

4 eggs

few tablespoons oyster sauce

oil & sesame oil for finishing

fried shallots

- soften noodles in boiling water as before

- grate zucchini coarsely (Ah Charmaine, you've done it again!) and mix in 2 teaspoons salt, put aside for 5 minutes

Out of season

I made wonton soup the other day despite the really hot weather we've been having.  Why?  Dunno!

Anyway, it wasn't really wonton soup either cos I made this up at 9pm one night from what was available from the local supermarket!  But it's still worth writing about because I always like recording the things that are easy and yum.   And I hope it'll inspire some of us who are too busy, to make this at home rather than go to a restaurant - because it really is easy!

Instead of pork mince - substitute 100g chicken mince per serve as it's readily available from the supermarkets

By the way (again)

ehhh...obviously some of the information below is obsolete...check out the menu items above instead...but you still need to be logged in!

For my convenience and interest, we've set up feeds from all these other foodie blogs..you can access them by clicking on the "feeds" link on the right.

Due to the origin of some of the feeds, you need to be logged in to foodie.tv to access some of the feeds.  Ie. if you get an "Access denied" message, log in!

If you don't already have an account, check out how easy it is by clicking on the link up the top right hand side of the page..really!

It's my blog and I'll write if I want to

..I mean, of course, that this entry is hardly going to be riveting, what with a signal lack of video, powerpoint or photos!  But, at least I'll get to write about my favourite subject :-)

Well, what's been happening in the last (wow has it been that long already) month since the post?

To start with, welcome to Nigel and Cindy!  I'm deciding who gets the chocolate at the moment.  Unfortunately the promised chocolate never turned up, but we stumbled across another very similar offering which we bought in anticipation of doing a taste comparison - so I'm glad to announce that there is chocolate for grabs still!

Whoo Hoo! Free Chocolate!

Submitted by susan on Thu, 2005-11-10 08:31.

What was that about doing what you love and being paid for it?

Here we are talking about food, cooking food and making tv shows about food.  And along comes a cool person whose name I shall not disclose (!)  and says..would you be interested in trying some ultra premium, gourmet, Swiss chocolate - cos I thought I could send you some?

WOULD I?!  Send the truck on over baby!

And...how I love a good cause...ask anyone I know!  For the foodie in me - this stuff is organic.  And for the human rights crusader in me.. wow, this stuff supports fair trade for those poor cocoa farmers.  What else could a girl want?  (Hmm...I'm a bit feminist too..so how about it guys? hehe..)

Sunday lunch with specials

Submitted by susan on Tue, 2005-11-08 13:59.

Wow, it's been almost three days since Sunday lunch and you're just now getting the pictures! Never mind *grin*

Now, it's not often that your average Malaysian fronts up to a Malaysian haunt and finds ..not one, not two..but three menu items that she's never heard of before. Well, of course you'd know a noodle dish or a rice dish. But I haven't seen these specific offerings elsewhere: [img_assist|fid=459|thumb=0|alt=Sunday specials|width=400|height=300]

It turns out that this place is run by a Penang lady and her Malacca-born husband - in later years a Singaporean, fyi. Victor & Mrs Saw. Unusual surname but apparently another incarnation of Soo or Soh. Ahh.

Allergen resource information

Submitted by susan on Thu, 2005-11-03 10:37.

Further to the allergen topic I raised on Tuesday, here's a good introduction to the topic (click on the attachment links below).  Not much help without notes of course, but I'll get to that in a bit (The Allergen Resource Bureau can apparently provide notes to go with the first presentation)... Check it out!

I'd also suggest (to those who are interested) to get a guest login at www.allergenbureau.net  - there's some more resources under the "What's new" and "resources" pages.  For instance, an allergen fact sheet by the Institute of Food Science and Technology, and notes from a lecture series by an immunologist from New York.

Let me know if you want this stuff but find it hard to get through to the site...  I don't want to post everything up here as it's obviously not fair to the allergen bureau!

Cheers

Susan
